Medicines for inhalation

from dr. Christian Gerninghaus

Use medicines correctly:
The use of inhalation drugs is often a major problem for the user. Especially in this application, patient handling is critical. Thus, it is not uncommon for inhaled medicines to not work as they should because of incorrect use. Here are some basic hints to be given. First to inhalation solutions, which are applied with electric inhalers. Both the devices and the inhalation solutions are to be handled strictly hygienically. For drug containers from which more than one dose can be withdrawn, the withdrawal period must be observed. Care should be taken during the inhalation process to ensure that the upper body is upright in order to avoid constrictions of the respiratory tract. Mouthpieces are preferable to breathing masks. Especially the coordination of breathing and operating the inhaler is difficult. During inhalation should be inhaled as slowly and deeply as possible After inhalation of the inhalant, the air should be stopped briefly before slowly exhaling. After inhaling medicines that expand the airways, you should not go outdoors in winter, but stay in the warm apartment for a while. After use, the inhalers are easy to clean. Residues of inhalation solutions left in the device must be discarded. Inhalation drugs, which you can always carry with you, come as so-called metered dose aerosols in small pressure vessels with special mouthpieces on the market. The pressure vessels are exposed to high heat, e.g. to preserve by solar radiation. Especially in the car, temperatures of over 50 degrees can easily be reached in summer. As a result, the pressure vessel can be damaged so that an exact dosage is no longer possible. In addition to the above-mentioned instructions for liquid inhalation medicines, the following should be observed with MDIs: – Shake the container vigorously before use – Close the mouthpiece with the lips – Place the head backwards – Simultaneously inhale and actuate the valve – Hold the air (5-10 seconds ) – exhale through the nose or against the lip brake – wait at least 30 seconds for another application For patients who have difficulty with this technique, there are special application aids that are also suitable for children.

The use of the AroMed vaporizer is much easier!
